Fuck It All – Life Sucks, But You Can Still Prevail

Fuck it all. I’m not ashamed to say that I used to say this all the time, and I still do, sometimes. I mean, take a look at the world around you. People spending four years or more of their lives studying university nonsense, then slaving in jobs they can’t stand, day after day, year after year.

I saw glimpses of this when I was in high school, but when I went to university I knew it was real. Sitting on the commuter train and seeing their faces: Thousands of tired, bored and downcast people. I thought to myself… Is this what I have to look forward to? Being a slave to my employer? Not only a 9 to 5 slave, a 7 to 7 slave, including the commute. I began thinking… Fuck it all!

I realized very early that most people become droids early in their lives. Actually, it begins in school, doesn’t it?

Why is life empty? Perhaps it’s the way people seek meaning in their lives. Here are six common problems:

1. Dumb, boring jobs.
Let’s face it, most people are not inspired by their jobs. People work to make the money to survive and to buy stuff. Their so-called “careers” are completely cut off from their true purpose.

2. Collecting.
You finish school, get a job and then you become a collector. First you get house, then you start collecting stuff to fill the house. Gadgets, furniture, expensive cars, video game consoles, etc… Strangely, some of the unhappiest people I’ve ever seen are the owners of a tremendous amount of stuff. Of course, for many people, having a lot of stuff correlates with…

3. Debt.
Many people who own a lot of stuff owe a lot of money as well. That is the other side of the droid slavery sandwich. The first half, of course, being your job. Debt is the ultimate ball and chain. You are chained to the debt, the interest and a job you hate.

I find it very unfortunate that so many young people today are drowning in debt right from the beginning. There must be another way to live life.

4. Pointless competition.
Competing with others for the sake of winning some kind of false status is another droid-producing activity. You’re doing something you don’t like, but you keep doing it anyways, so you can be better than others at living the lie. Competing with others is a dead end that will never lead to true happiness. True happiness is gained by overcoming yourself.

5. A special case of competing with others is credentialism.
Getting some kind of piece of paper that says you are superior to others, boy, that’s some satisfaction. I have one close friend who became a medical doctor just to be able stuck the label “doctor” onto herself. Now, she hates her career, she’s miserable and she’s ill and the credentials don’t help at all. Oops!

Credentialism is a special and insidious kind of competition. Thirsting for knowledge is a good thing. Lusting for popularity and false “social status” is a disease. When I see people like this, I see that they’re always hungry for more, they never have enough of anything, especially praise.

6. Idols. All kinds of false pretexts that can serve as a purpose is in the lives of droids fit in here. Check out my post on idols for an extensive list.

What do all these have in common?

They are based on the ego, and not the spirit.

They seek meaning from without, rather than within.

They seek approval from other people, rather than from our own selves.

They are based on surviving, not living.

In other words, society is a matrix to which people are plugged in. School, university, the media, religions… Everybody is telling us what to do and yet happiness remains elusive.

The solution is SELF-CULTIVATION.

Seek meaning from within. Find what inspires you and do that for a living. Know your purpose. If you don’t know your purpose, then take a sabbatical, go into nature and look inside yourself until you come up with a purpose.

Sometimes when I walk around and see people I think to myself:

“It lives… But it does not know why!”

That is the essence of the droid. There are ways to improve your relationships, to find a soulmate, to get a new girlfriend or boyfriend and ways to get healthier.

Travelling or living abroad is also a way to get oneself out of one’s daily misery.

There are also ways to make money online from home. Little by little, as you discover yourself, you wean yourself off of the droid routine and become more and more free. You let go of the shackles.

One thing I recommend is to start a website about something you love. It’s easy, I know it. I had absolutely ZERO experience when I started, I did not have any training and I do everything myself. If people like what you have to say, you will generate traffic. And when you do that, you can turn a profit.

Getting a website hosted is very cheap. I recommend host gator, which I’ve been using for a year now. They are cost-effective and their customer service is exemplary. One year, zero problems.

That’s just one idea, but it’s a good one. Earning money online can put anyone on the path to liberation from the daily grind of the droids.

Konstantin.
